LA at Night
From Santa Monica back to the Valley...
It is later than it should be.
The car echoes with the soundtrack of angst.
Practically alone, a simple car races up the freeway.
A different version of Los Angeles is revealing itself.
Gone are the brake lights.
Gone are the moments spent reading bumper stickers.
In a city this crowded, I feel alone.
In a city this noisy, I feel at peace.
Traffic is readying itself for another battle.
For now, the road is open and free.
Awash in artificial light, a smile creeps on the driver’s side.
I actually live here.
No one can take that away from me.
Freedom finally feels possible.
Be good to each other,
Nathan
