Sauce: The Gin Diary, Part I

Cocktail: Clover Club

Ingredients: 1.5 ounces of gin, .75 ounce of lemon juice, .5 ounce of dry vermouth, 2 teaspoons of grenadine, 1 egg white

Directions: Combine gin, lemon juice, vermouth, grenadine, and egg white in a cocktail shaker; shake 10 seconds without ice. Fill shaker with ice; shake about 30 seconds or until cold and frothy. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Bartender Reaction: I think this is the perfect summer cocktail. Thanks to the grenadine and lemon mixed with gin and dry vermouth, it achieves a perfect balance. I love its strong red color and texture (thanks to the egg white). Of all the gin-based cocktails we will explore in this series, this is the one I drink most often and recommend to those wanting to dip their toes into the world of gin.
