Cinephile No. 602 "The Light Between Oceans"
I have two confessions; I didn't expect Labor Day weekend to be a slow one at the box office and I selected this movie blindly. Every once in a while when you roll the dice, you get lucky. With "The Light Between Oceans," I got lucky. The plot was challenging. The acting was enthralling. The story felt real. As an audience member, I don't know if there is anymore that I can ask for than this. With every scene, I tried to put myself in the shoes of the characters before me. I debated their decisions and tried to draw conclusions about what I would do when confronted with the powerful emotions of love and guilt. Ultimately, I was left searching and questioning. 24 hours later, as I write this, I still don't know what I would do. I know this for sure though, this is a hidden gem of a movie that apparently didn't deserve to be buried on Labor Day weekend.
Be good to each other,
-Nathan
