Cinephile No. 604 "Hell or High Water"
Since the financial crisis of late 2008, several movies have stepped forward to tell stories about complicated banking instruments in simple terms. Some have done better than others, but all have been told from the point of view of Wall Street. "Hell or High Water" brings the crisis to Main Street America and tells a story of two brothers robbing banks in an effort to get their mother out of debt and a soon to be retired sheriff forced on the beat once more. The plot may sound cliche, but it is written and acted with such honesty that it is hard not to relate with the characters, even if the housing bubble had no impact on you. If this is the beginning of movies told about the financial ruin of America and its impact on actual Americans, then I can't wait to see whats next.
Be good to each other,
