Cinephile No. 508 “Experimenter”
I have always thought the Milgram Experiment on Obedience would make a great movie and "Experimenter" proved me right. You know the experiment. A learner and a teacher sit on opposite sides of a wall. The teacher asks questions, the learner answers them incorrectly and the teacher provides what he believes to be increasing amounts of electric shock. The social/psychological experiment is taught in every entry level psychology class in the world. It was so very intriguing to meet the man behind the work, as well as get to know his family life and his other contributions such as the 6 Degrees of Separation experiment. While the movie isn’t the most dramatic thing you will ever see, it is shot in a way that keeps you involved and guessing. As you leave the theatre, you may even want to dig deeper into Milgram’s work; which for the screenwriter must feel like a win.
Thanks for entering my world,
-Nathan
